The Medallion of San Fermin

The first book in the Quest Theater series, The Medallion of San Fermin, introduces the Quest children; Pearl, Bernie and Oscar. They arrive to their grandfather’s dilapidated theater to spend their first afternoon waiting for their father to get off of work to take them home. Their grandfather has become something of an aloof hermit after their grandmother disappeared inexplicably ten years ago.

In this first book, the children are given a brief and uneventful tour of the drab theater. The only areas where their gruff grandfather allows them to spend their time are on the stage and in the costume storage room. The children decide to make the best of it, trying on a few comical costumes and pretending to be actors performing in front of a packed house. After a few days of the same routine though, the kids become bored and long for something more interesting to do. It’s at this point that Bernie ventures into the projection room and begins experimenting with various buttons and dials on the light board.

When the children suddenly find themselves in Pamplona, Spain in 1953 with a dozen angry bulls stampeding toward them down the cobblestone street they start to wonder….what exactly did Bernie do in the projection room!
